Uh, I am the Mommy ...

Haha, I had a pretty funny experience on the telephone yesterday evening.  The phone rang, and the conversation went something like this:

Me: Hello?

Lady: Hello, I'm calling from the San Diego Union-Tribune .. [tone of voice changes to a sweet one]  May I speak to your mommy or daddy please?

Me: [Totally flustered]  Uhh .. (I didn't even know how to respond!)

Lady: [Also flustered]  OH .. you are the mommy, huh?

Me: [Thinking for a minute]  Oh, um, yeah .. (meanwhile, I'm thinking, Oh yeah, I am the mommy!  Weird!!  )

Lady:  [Trying to recover from her embarrassment]  Well, you just have such a wonderfully youthful voice ..

Needless to say, we didn't renew our subscription to the Union-Tribune.   Haha .. and I spent the rest of the short exchange concentrating on lowering my voice to a mature-sounding, adult-like level.

Here are some new pictures of Elijah from our trip to the San Diego Zoo last week:

I'm a rookie!  (Actually, all three of us are rookies!!)

We stuck his face (or rather, his car seat) in front of lots of animals .. these are the memories that he'll never remember, but we will!   This bird is checking out his diaper bag for food:

That's it for this week!  Don't forget to set your clocks forward for Daylight Saving Time this Sunday!

Welcome to this world, Baby Elijah!

Okay, so I guess it's high time that I post something about our newborn baby, Elijah Yong-En Lee!  He just turned 8 weeks old on Tuesday.  Noelle and Cathy just came for a visit last weekend (yay!), and Noelle posted his picture on her xanga, so now I feel compelled to do the same.   What a bad mom I am!   So now, to make up for lost time, I'm going to post a gazillion pictures of him!

He was born the day after Christmas .. didn't want to share the spotlight with Jesus, I guess!   It took 18 hours from the time I entered the hospital until he was born.  I got the epidural .. for ladies out there who are thinking about/going to have kids, I highly recommend it - it was great!   [That's 'cuz I'm pretty wimpy when it comes to pain - just the thought of being in pain scares me!]  Elijah was 7 pounds, 15 ounces, very pale when he was first born (I guess most babies are!), and only liked to open one eye, so I nicknamed him Popeye until he began to practice opening both eyes:

Here's our first family picture together after the delivery (Elijah was too busy crying to smile):

He slept a lot the first couple of days:

And then he opened his eyes, and when we saw they were yellow, we realized he was jaundiced!   So he went back to the hospital for phototherapy treatment overnight:

Baby and Daddy before we left the hospital post-jaundice treatment:

When he came home, he was better .. here's one of my favorite cartoon faces that he used to make in his first week of life whenever I burped him:

And then his cheeks began to fill out as he ate more and more (week 2 of life):

In week 3 of his life, the Chargers lost to the Patriots (which Elijah's dad was happy about, but which Joe was not!), hence this picture:

Week 4 - Daddy and baby napping together:

IMG_0589

One of my favorite pictures - baby toes!

Week 5 - we had some friends over to celebrate Elijah's one-month birthday, and took multiple shots .. thanks to Andy and his Photoshop skills, we finally got a good one!

IMG_0616

Week 6 - Elijah saying hi .. he had a mild case of baby acne and eczema before we figured out how to help him get rid of it  :

IMG_0655

Week 7: The eczema got worse - that's why he's all rosy-cheeked in this one:

Week 8 - I love baby fat dimples on their knuckles!!

Elijah with Eucerin on his face:

And now, he's a happy baby with a clear face!

Now you're all sick of looking at pictures of Baby Elijah .. I think I've more than made up for my earlier delinquency as a mother!   Wouldn't you agree??

An important announcement ...

Two nights ago, Tim and I were watching the Padres v. Dodgers baseball game (well, Tim was watching; I was just eating dinner and the TV happened to be on), and Nomar Garciaparra was up at bat.

Tim pointed out the player's unique name, and I looked at it and thought it looked kinda strange, so I said, "They should've named him Ramon ... you know, spell it backwards or something ..." [I'm weird and very visual like that.]  Then, Tim informed me that Nomar's dad is actually already named Ramon ... and *bam*, inspiration struck.

So the very important announcement, we've decided, is that if we have a boy, it's going to be named "Mit," and if we have a girl, it's going to be called "Enitsirhc."

You like??   You think our kid will have any friends??
